Job Description: Operating Room and Sterile Processing Technician
Job Summary: This is a dual role position in which the individual fulfills two functions; operating room technician and sterile processing technician. As the OR Technician or "scrub" technician, the health team member is specifically involved with the instrumentation and technical aspects of the operative event. As the sterile processing technician, they are responsible for the cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing of supplies, instruments and equipment.
Qualifications: A high school diploma is required. Surgical Technician diploma required.
Job Skills & Requirements:
- Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement principles of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
- Understanding of principles of surgical positioning.
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment use, care and handling.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and basics of care to include anesthesia and potential complications.
- Recognition of signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions.
- Prepares the Operating Room.
- Performs surgical assistant duties; assists physicians.
- Cares for surgical equipment and instruments while managing supplies.
