POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced embryologist with experience in porcine somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) at our Coralville, IA laboratory that will be responsible for using assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to produce gene-edited (GE) animals for use as human disease models. Appropriate candidates will have experience in embryology and reproductive biology. Previous experience in SCNT is required. Familiarity with molecular techniques used for GE animal production is preferred. The embryologist will be expected to complete routine SCNT and related tasks on aggressive timelines and to work as part of a team. Position requires excellent communication skills, experience in a scientific research setting, an ability to troubleshoot technical laboratory issues, and willingness to adhere to strict protocols, quality control measures, and timelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to the improvement of SCNT efficiencies and outcomes.
- Contribute to optimizing an embryo culture system.
- Responsible for the production and testing of different media.
- Contribute to embryo transfer protocols, planning, and execution.
- Assist the embryo lab manager in project planning and conducting experiments.
- Keep accurate data on developmental and quality control parameters and timely documentation of laboratory work.
- Pay attention to detail, strictly adhere to safety protocols, and use knowledge of basic laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.Sc. in Animal Science, Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields.
- Minimum 1 year of post-baccalaureate laboratory experience with focused training in SCNT and/or ICSI, IVF, cell culture, embryo culture, media formulation, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience in cellular molecular biology techniques preferred.
