Job Summary
We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant/Technician 3 to support research projects aiming to improve maternal and youth mental health outcomes. The RA will closely work with the project lead Dr. Saima Hirani to contribute to various research activities including conducting and analyzing scoping review, FGD/ interviews, assisting in manuscript writing and other knowledge translation activities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong research skills, particularly in qualitative methods, and have experience in conducting data collection, analysis, literature review and manuscript writing, planning, and supporting the planning and execution of rigorous research studies.
Work Performed
Plan and perform research tasks, including scoping reviews, focus groups, and interviews, ensuring high-quality data collection and analysis.
Troubleshoot issues that arise during study implementation and offer solutions.
Assist research leads and the team with study design, protocol development, and methodological approaches.
Collect, record, analyze, and interpret qualitative research data.
Coordinate with the research team and collaborators.
Write and present study results at team meetings; assist with grant writing, research reporting, manuscripts writing, and presentation preparation as needed.
Provide training and guidance to undergraduate students or junior research staff on research procedures.
Research, coordinate, and perform data collection for multiple ongoing mental health projects.
Ensure compliance with ethical and procedural guidelines, including confidentiality and informed consent.
Oversee and guide the work of junior research staff as needed.
Participate in any additional related duties as required by the department.
Supervision Received
The RA will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Saima Hirani.
Supervision Given
The post holder will be expected to work relatively independently with direction and guidance provided by the PI.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Completion of Master’s program in nursing, public health, psychology, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of experience in qualitative research.
Demonstrated experience and passion in mental health research is highly desirable.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize qualitative data.
Experience with research software and tools for qualitative data analysis (e.g. NVivo) is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting research findings.
Ability to work independently under general supervision and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
