Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities
- Provides midwifery care to women in the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including, but not limited to, prenatal visits, antepartum testing, attendance during labor, vaginal deliveries, assisting with cesarean sections, repair of vulvar/vaginal lacerations, immediate and outpatient postpartum care.
- Provides routine newborn care up to six weeks.
- Provides midwifery care to women of all ages in the area of well-woman gynecology, including, but not limited to, family planning and birth control; STI prevention, diagnosis, and treatment; diagnosis and treatment of minor gynecological problems; and menopause.
- Participates in the Midwifery Service, participating in peer review, meetings, and projects of the Service.\
- Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.
- Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Bases decision upon information obtained, professional midwifery knowledge and skills and prescribed policies and procedures.
- Ensures preparation of timely, appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care.
- Provides emergency care as required.
- Provides routine care for pregnancy and birth, and well woman care.
- Gives total patient care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services to patients under incumbent’s care.
- Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatients underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient’s medications, diet, therapy course, and adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and counsels patients as required.
- Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided on-site. Coordinates and integrates information obtained into the on-going Health Care Program at the Service Unit and assures the provision of timely follow-up care as required.
- Works closely with Allied Health professionals (Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Health Education, etc.) in the provision of broad health program services.
- Serves as a consultant in the field of midwifery to other members of the FDIHB Medical Staff.
- Serves on hospital committees as assigned.
- Serves as a member of the Medical Staff and is responsible for all associated duties including following Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations, participates in the performance improvement activities, which are coordinated with the hospital wide PI programs and ensures that the department and subordinate departments are in full compliance with CMS, EMTALA and hospital standards
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
- This is an entry level position-experience will be attained on the job.
Education
- Master's degree or certificate in midwifery through an accredited institute of higher education.
- Active American Midwifery Certification Board Certification
- Active unrestricted Midwifery license in any US or territory.
- Certification in BLS (basic life support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
