Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant – Choose Well Program
Location: North Central Family Medical Center (NCFMC) – Rock Hill
Position Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a dual role at NCFMC by overseeing daily operations of the Choose Well Program and providing direct clinical support to medical providers. This position ensures efficient patient flow, supports quality healthcare delivery, and assists with administrative and clinical tasks related to women’s health, family planning, and general medical services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Choose Well Program Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the Choose Well Program.
- Schedule and organize Choose Well training sessions for clinical and administrative staff.
- Manage Participating Provider levels and program compliance.
- Provide contraceptive counseling to patients.
- Collect and report clinical data relevant to program performance.
- Complete and submit program reports as required.
Clinical Support Duties:
- Prepare patients to be seen by a provider for face-to-face, telehealth, or phone visits.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, labs, or cashier desk; provide mobility support when necessary.
- Measure and document vital signs, weight, oxygen saturation, and other routine procedures.
- Notify provider if vital signs or complaints suggest potential emergencies (e.g., chest pain, shortness of breath).
- Perform developmental and risk screenings; complete relevant documentation in EMR.
- Assist providers with procedures such as gynecological exams, pap smears, colposcopies, suture removals, joint injections, LARC placements, and more.
- Conduct basic lab procedures and collect specimens based on the provider's orders or chief complaint.
- Perform additional clinical tasks such as EKGs, nebulizer treatments, IM injections, vaccinations, PPD testing, UNNA boot applications, etc.
- Maintain and stock exam rooms; clean between patients and at day’s end following infection control protocols.
- Dispose of sharps, used needles, and expired medications per NCFMC policy.
Administrative Support Duties:
- Document patient histories including chief complaint, medication, social/family/medical/surgical history.
- Use EMR to review labs, notes, schedule patient and secure messaging.
- Maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant communication and documentation.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, or CNA program.
- Prior experience in ambulatory or outpatient healthcare preferred.
- Previous experience in women’s health or patient counseling a plus.
- Experience with appointment scheduling and administrative functions preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Current CMA or RMA certification (AAMA, AMT, NCCT or equivalent).
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic clinical knowledge and ability to perform routine procedures within scope.
- Ability to perform injections and draw blood.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and patient education.
- Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and professional conduct.
- Organized, dependable, and able to problem-solve in fast-paced environments.
- Proficient in EMR usage, lab equipment, EKG machines, audiometers, and autoclaves.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, and talk/hear.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Close vision required for EMR and lab procedures.
Work Environment:
- Moderate noise level.
- Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards (Category II, Category B).
