Meharry invites applications for multiple tenure-track assistant, associate, and full professor positions with a focus on evaluating the population benefits and risks of cancer, maternal health, violence and mental health, infectious disease and vaccines, environmental exposures, aging, social and legal epidemiology, and/or social justice.

In accordance with the efforts underway to establish initial full accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health, multiple public health concentrations at both the masters and doctoral levels are in development. Meharry’s commitment to offering a robust and evidence-based curriculum that will adequately prepare learners and leaders for the challenges associated with a profession in public health will be expected to extend to the successful candidate(s).

Successful candidates will be a member of the Institute of Global Health Equity and the future School of Global Public Health.

The Institution seeks candidates with experience in innovative methods in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, or a related field, in particular the design and analysis of etiologic and intervention studies. The candidate will work with cross disciplinary teams of scientists and clinicians.

The College is generating fundamental and transformative knowledge to improve public health and health equity. Of particular interest are candidates who bring expertise in novel study design and risk assessment methodologies applied to human population research. The individual will lead a program of research demonstrated by independent research funding, publication of manuscripts and leadership at local, national, and international research conferences dependent on rank.

For senior appointments, it is expected that faculty will take on a leadership role in expanding the teaching, research, and service missions of the College. They will also mentor junior faculty and graduate students and serve on internal and external committees.

Qualifications

Candidates must have completed a PhD, DrPH or equivalent doctoral degree in epidemiology or a closely related field, and have demonstrated excellence in funded research, teaching, and scholarly publication in accordance with their career stage.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of Statistical software such as SAS or Stata
Must be flexible, reliable, and responsible with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and communicate results in a clear and concise manner.
