Job Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in biology, animal science or related field required.
- Well versed in the area of aseptic technique with experience in tissue culture a plus.
- Successful completion of orientation and training programs.
- Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, and blood-borne pathogens. Risk of physical injury from various lifting tasks and operation of equipment.
- Rigorous work environment.
- Must meet requirements of ADA. Ability to stand, push, pull, turn handles, and bend during performance of job tasks.

- Performs semen analysis activities: records physical seminal parameters: assesses sperm count: assesses sperm motility and viability: assesses sperm morphology: enter and records analysis data: reports data to clinical staff.
- Performs semen preparation procedures for intra-uterine insemination (IUI): records physical seminal parameters: assesses sperm count: assesses sperm motility and viability: assesses sperm morphology: selects motile fractions: organizes for prepared sample transportation: reports potentially pathologic findings to physicians: maintains IUI data and outcome evaluations.
- Performs preparation of sperm specimen for IVF and ICSI.
- Semen cryopreservation and maintenance of samples: freezes semen: enters data in cryo logbook: checks liquid nitrogen level daily: checks inventories periodically: thaws and prepares samples for IUI or ART/IVF: freezes epididymal or testicular sperm samples.
- Performs blood hormone assays using a Tosoh analyzer.
- Performs daily QC and troubleshooting in the endocrinology and andrology laboratories.
- Prepares, validates and replenishes all reagents required for use in the Tosoh analyzer.
- Enters clinical data into eIVF electronic medical record.
- Maintains a logbook of assays, IUI and other activities.
- Performs standardization testing for sperm count, motility and morphology.
- Participates in bi-annual internal sperm Proficiency Testing.
- Maintains an incident book.
- Adheres to CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Labels collection specimens accurately.
- Provides specimen collection instructions.
- Prepares andrology and endocrinology laboratories for daily maintenance activities under supervision of andrology laboratory manager.
- Stocks semen preparation, andrology and endocrinology laboratories with essential items on a daily basis.
- Assists Laboratory Director in implementing laboratory quality control and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Assists Laboratory Director in maintaining logbook(s) for quality control and OSHA related matters.
- Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment. Responsible for the general maintenance of all laboratory equipment, including periodic service and calibration.
- Interacts with laboratory manager and database/network support staff regarding data entry and reporting.
- Interacts with outside staff and physicians and relays messages regarding patient results.
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of the andrology, endocrinology and Media Prep laboratories.
