MGH OB Antepartum and Postpartum Physician Assistant
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed advanced practice provider who will be responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical and/or obstetric, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The PA will be working jointly out of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Ob/Gyn Academic Specialists Divisions primarily working with postpartum (PP) and antepartum patients at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Hours: Tuesday- Friday 7am- 5:30pm, no weekends/holidays
This is an inpatient position.
Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
- Works with MFM Antepartum service, covers the sick PP list with the Ob/Gyn Specialists and works in collaboration with PP Midwife
- Attend Rounds with MFM Antepartum Service
- Attend Rounds with PP Blake/Ellison 13 Rounds
- Coordinates admission of patients from triage that will be going to MFM Antepartum Service
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the inpatient and/or procedural setting
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
- Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
- Cares for obstetric and postpartum patients in the inpatient setting
- Helps coordinate transition of care to the ambulatory setting upon discharge.
- Round daily on hospitalized postpartum patients as part of postpartum team with resident physicians, Counsel and educate patients and family about postpartum events, activities, lactation and contraception
- Follow patients in postpartum setting and manage complex medical conditions including hypertension and diabetes and care for patients following complex obstetrical surgeries as part of a team with the MFM and Ob/Gyn Specialist physicians.
- Be a part of current Maternal Fetal Medicine and Ob/Gyn Academic Specialist teams
- Perform counsel on contraception and perform Nexplanon insertions
Qualification
- Master's Degree Physician Assistant, required
- 1-2 years inpatient experience, preferred
- 1-2 years OB/GYN experience, preferred
