We are looking for a Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse to work with our Obstetrics Department to help us continue in our mission to serve our community with Kindness, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork.
Position Responsibilities:
The Lactation Consultant (LC) Registered Nurse is accountable and responsible for the provision of general and specialized nursing duties and work assignments on a daily basis. As part of the interdisciplinary health team, the Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse will practice within their full scope in accordance with the nursing philosophy and standards set by HHCC, the College of Nurses of Ontario, and the Regulated Health Professionals Act legislation.
The Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse will coordinate care, activities, and education related to breastfeeding in collaboration with Maternal and Paediatric Manager(s) at Headwaters Health Care Centre. The LC will also use a use a patient-centered approach to primary health care that brings together physicians and other health-care professionals to co-ordinate the highest possible quality of care through community partnership.
Qualifications:

Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (RN

Current BCLS certificate
-
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation
-
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
-
Breastfeeding course (20-hour INFACT/WHO) completed or in progress

Minimum 2 years’ experience in obstetrical nursing

Minimum of 2 years recent experience (within 6 months) as a Lactation Consultant

Current knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of lactation

Current knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative

Previous participation and leadership of quality improvement initiatives (e.g. Baby Friendly Initiative)
-
Experience providing individualized and group teaching to post-partum patients as well as support and teaching to obstetric and pediatric staff
-
Must have own transportation and work in partnership with Headwaters Health Care Centre and DAFHT.

Proficiency in computer applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel

Appropriate lifting techniques

Acceptable performance and attendance records
Hiring Salary Range: $39.07 - $56.00
