Overview: A Certified Nurse Midwife actively participates in antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care of expectant females. Care may include independent evaluation and management of both low and higher risk patients, A midwife may perform vaginal deliveries of newborn babies. Midwife may assist physician with complicated, higher-risk deliveries. A midwife is expected to provide primary gynecologic care to women including gynecologic check-ups, family planning services and evaluation and management of medical conditions. Ability to perform standard office-based procedures is expected. Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:

Admission, discharge, and transfer of OB patients

Order entry via EMR

Charge capture
-
Management of low-risk laboring patients to include uncomplicated vaginal deliveries

Fetal Heart rate monitoring and evaluation
-
Preinduction cervical ripening
-
Induction of labor
-
OB triage evaluation to potentially include transfer to higher level of care

Medical record documentation via EMR
-
Office-based OB/GYN care following evidenced based standards of care

Consultation with Department of Anesthesia for regional anesthesia placement
-
Removal of epidural catheter (as needed)

Participates in Department of OB meetings and is accountable to quality metrics of the Department
Qualifications:

Credentials:
- Current BLS and NRP certifications.

Satisfactory completion of all clinical training segments within their midwife training program.

Preferred: Two to Three years of experience as a midwife performing intrapartum care and outpatient gynecologic services. At least one year of experience as a nurse in Labor and Delivery

Preferred: Proven expertise in providing successful intrapartum care in at least 20 deliveries in the previous 12-month period
Education:
Graduation from an approved and accredited school for Nurse Midwifery
