Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for checking patients out, verifying patient insurance coverage and benefits, ensuring accurate coding and compliance with relevant regulations, collecting/ processing payments and scheduling appointments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and insurance processes, in a women's healthcare medical office setting.
Duties
- Conduct thorough verification of patient insurance information to ensure coverage for services rendered.
- Schedule follow-up appointments, tests or specialists referrals as directed by providers
- Collect co-pays, oustanding balances, and verify patient billing information
- Review and interpret insurance policies, benefits, and eligibility requirements.
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-10 and ICD-9 to accurately document patient information.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and billing specialist to resolve discrepancies in patient records or insurance claims.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality and sensitive information.
- Assist in the coding process by providing necessary documentation and support for medical billing.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their insurance coverage and any necessary follow-up actions.
- Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, coding standards, and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with clinical and front office staff to ensure smooth patient flow
- Perform other administration duties as assigned/ needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred/ ObGyn is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding practices, including ICD-10 and ICD-9.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes and procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure
- Proficient in using office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
