Position: Andrology/Endocrine Lab Technician
Supervisor Title: Lab Director
Regular Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00-3:00 PM, occasional weekends & holidays

OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for performing laboratory services in accordance with laboratory operations manuals, with assisting in the introduction of new laboratory services, with training other laboratory technicians as required with promoting and maintaining laboratory philosophy and performance standards.
This position reports to the Laboratory Director.
Job Responsibilities
Andrology Technical and Clinical
- Examines and processes specimens for routine semen analysis.Perform counts for concentration and motility
Perform histological techniques for identifying leucocytes, immature germ cells and morphology.
- Processes semen for ART procedures and intrauterine inseminations (IUIs). Recovery of motile sperm from normospermic specimens using selective methods (i.e., density gradient) should yield at least 10% of the initial motile sperm population, and increase the motility of the specimen post wash by greater than or equal to 10%
- Performs semen cryopreservations
- Assures proper sample collection, delivery and identification and chain of custody.
- Performs safe handling of specimens by following the safety guidelines for biohazard, infectious and toxic substances in the Andrology and IVF laboratories.
- Performs daily/weekly/monthly quality control procedures for media and equipment used in the Andrology laboratory
- Documents quality assurance activities including assessment of problems and appropriate corrective action.
- Performs Andrology proficiency testing as required by AAB.
- Sets up, calibrates, and cleans lab equipment. Assures routine maintenance and repairs are performed and documented
- Assists laboratory personnel in performing lab services in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and guidelines to ensure laboratory maintains accreditation.
- Assists as required in maintaining lab operations in conformity with the most current OSHA and CLIA regulations
Endocrine Technical and Clinical
- Perform endocrine hormone assays for infertility patients.
- Complete understanding of blood tests required for the different ART cycles.
- Perform phlebotomy, as required, on patients with the complete identification of each sample drawn, including the preparation for both in house testing and specimens being sent to a reference lab.
- Assures proper sample collection, delivery, and identification
- Communicates with center personnel, medical staff, patients, and outside resources to ensure high quality patient care.
- Processes requisitions, test reports and test records in a timely manner.
- Other clinical laboratory duties as assigned.
Administrative
- Generate blood work / endocrine reports, entering cycling patient results in electronic medical record platform.
- Works and charts with results to the appropriate Doctor to review and sign.
- Proficiency with Clinical EMR for the ordering of laboratory tests and entering daily results in the system.
- Maintains laboratory records, reports and files, daily monitoring of quality control and recording of monthly stats for the Endocrine Laboratory.
- Document quality assurance activities including assessment of problems and appropriate corrective action.
- Prepares periodic reports and other documents for supervisors.
- Processes requisitions, test reports and test records in a timely manner.
- Maintains lab records, reports, and files.
- Follows billing procedures as per company policy
- Perform various office functions including photocopying, typing, faxing, and filing reports
- Orders and stocks lab supplies on an ongoing basis
- Communicates with practice personnel, medical staff, patients, and outside resources to ensure high quality patient care and customer service orientation.
- Prepares periodic reports and other documents for supervisors
Laboratory Services
- Perform safe handling of specimens by following the safety guidelines for biohazardous, infectious and toxic substances in the Endocrine Laboratory.
- Perform daily start-up on in-house machine and run all appropriate endocrine assays.
- Document quality assurance activities including description of unusual incidents, problems, and appropriate corrective action on remedial action sheet.
- Perform daily/weekly quality control for procedures and equipment used in the Laboratory.
- Perform endocrine proficiency testing as required by CLIA ‘88 regulations.
- Assist with writing new policies and procedures and updating the Endocrine Laboratory procedure manual when necessary.
- Assist laboratory personnel in performing laboratory services in accordance with Federal, State and local laws and guidelines to ensure laboratory maintains accreditation.
- Assist as required in maintaining laboratory operations in conformity with OSHA and CLIA ‘88 regulations.
- Sets up, calibrates, and cleans laboratory equipment. Assures routine maintenance and repairs are performed and documented. Follows manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoots malfunctions; calls for repairs; maintain equipment inventories; evaluate new equipment and techniques.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Education: Accumulated Junior level credits (or Associates degree) in Chemical, Physical, or Biological science (Andrology Technician)
- Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum Experience: 6 months to 1 year in hospital, physician’s office, or scientific lab with some general knowledge of lab techniques.
- Preferred Experience: 6 months to 1 year in Andrology Laboratory
- Preferred Phlebotomy Experience

This group will include, but is not limited to: physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, certified nurse assistants, phlebotomists, lab technicians and ultrasound sonographers.
