Taber Acute Care is a 17-bed unit providing care to Medical/Surgical/Obstetrical/Maternity and patients received from the ER, Regional/Tertiary facilities and directly from home. This environment is suitable for a Registered Nurse who has recent medical, surgical and/or maternity experience. As a member of the CoAct team, the Registered Nurse provides safe and effective nursing care according to AHS policies and best practice standards. You will coordinate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, patient and family. You will utilize the nursing processes, critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills to coordinate care, teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and families. You will observe, monitor, report, and document changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state. You will periodically assume charge nurse responsibilities once you are established on the unit and orientated to the role. It is the expectation the successful candidate will work in all areas of acute care, including labor and delivery, participate in MoreOB skill drills, workshops, exams etc. and complete all required education in the allotted agreed upon time frame. Taber is a farm and ranch community with a multi-cultural flavor unique to other municipalities. Residents enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational activities including camping, boating, fishing, kayaking, water sports, ice fishing and skating in winter, just to name a few. We are located 1 hour from the US border or SK, as well as 2 hours from the BC border. This position qualifies for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program, which reimburses $4,000 per year (up to a maximum of 5 years) for working in the rural Taber setting.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
1 year recent Acute Care experience required. Cardiac monitoring experience. NRP Certification. Recent 1 year maternity experience (Maternity certified), completed STORC modules, breastfeeding module, post - partum hemorrhage module, fetal heart surveillance with proven ability to manage maternity patient independently.
