Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant Andrologist . This a full time post comprising of 10 programmed activities (PAs).
The Urology service at UHL currently provides all urological activity – including all sub-specialties - for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and is a tertiary referral centre for cancer, andrology, stones and female urology.
You will be joining an already established sub-specialist team of 2 Consultant Andrologists, 2 Reconstructive Consultant Urologists, 2 SpRs, dedicated juniors, 4 specialist nurses and a Physicians Associate. UHL Andrology Service runs a large Supra-regional Penile cancer Service for a population of over 5 million hosting the regional weekly teleconferenced MDT, We receive tertiary referrals for Peyronie’s, ED, Incontinence, from all over the region and beyond. The department is a high volume implant centre of both penile prostheses and artificial sphincters.
We now have our own on-site lithotripter which delivers emergency stone treatment 5 days per week. We have a well-established high-volume urology day case program with a new Elective Day Case Hub built within the LGH site.
We continue to expand our robotic surgery program for major cancers, and work in partnership with other Trusts providing cancer services for Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Derby.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
- To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
- Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff
- To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
- Teaching, research and administration.
- To proactively develop the service.
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
