UNIT SUMMARY:
4 Chest is a 37-bed acute surgical unit and is comprised of 3 distinct units: Thoracic Surgery; Head and Neck Cancer; and, our level two Surgical Step-Down Unit. As the Regional Centre for both Thoracic Surgery and Head and Neck Cancer, 4 Chest offers a depth and wealth of learning opportunities.
We support the care of patients with newly diagnosed disease including thoracic (e.g., lung, esophageal), head and neck cancer, and reconstructive plastic surgery. Our 8-bed, Level 2 Surgical Stepdown Unit provides care for critically ill surgical patients including those who have undergone Thoracic, Orthopedic, Urology, Gynecology, Vascular, GI and General Surgical procedures.
Together, 4 Chest provides exemplary care in a cohesive, collaborative and integrated manner. As a part of an academic centre, the team supports and participates in ongoing research, quality improvement and inter-professional activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers
- Recent medical-surgical nursing experience preferred
- Critical care certificate an asset
- Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated effective organizational skills involving time management and prioritization
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
- Ability to function in a changing fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and self-directed learning
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family-centred care
- Good attendance and work record are essential
