Job Description
What you will do:
- Responsible for developing and implementing client breeding programs by producing embryos from their donor cows and pregnancies in their recipient cows.
- Lead training sessions with new Embryo Transfer (“E.T”) breeders on-site at dairies across the U.S. that include the following tasks:
- Ensure that disease and trauma are minimized when embryos are harvested from donors and transferred into recipients and monitor the reproductive fertility in resident cows;
- Flush and transfer bovine embryos in the clinic and on farms;
- Perform ultrasound guided transvaginal ovum pickup procedures for bovine in vitro fertilization (“IVF”) embryo production; and
- Review and design superovulation and synchronization protocols for donors and recipients;
- Ongoing leadership and support to our breeders to help them continue to improve their skills and performance.
- Develop training materials and references and resources for staff breeders.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of breeding program sessions and make adjustments as needed to ensure that company breeders are performing duties properly and adapting to new protocols as implemented.
- Monitor and assist with daily care of calves, facilities, and equipment.
- Position requires domestic travel up to 70% as needed and customary for the occupation.
Position Requirements
- The position requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or foreign equivalent degree.
- The qualified candidate must have at least 3 years (36 months) of experience in an animal breeding training position or closely related occupation.
- The qualified candidate must also have at least 3 years (36 months) of experience with all of the following; (a) developing and implementing training methods and materials; (b) Assessing employee training needs and creating training plans; (c) providing training sessions on breeding programs including trainings related to artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and ultrasound; and (d) evaluating effectiveness of training sessions and making adjustments.
- All experience may be gained concurrently.
