Job Summary
- Under the general guidance of the physicians/providers performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice
Essential Functions
To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Reviews patient history and physician's orders
- Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation
- Provides patient services to all ages using imaging modalities
- Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices
- Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate
- Prepares equipment and supplies
- Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment
- Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or report equipment malfunctions as necessary
- Positions patient and performs imaging procedures
- Keeps patients adequately covered for their comfort and modesty
- Pulls call rotation for after hours an weekend procedures
- Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results
- Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure
- Enters, transmits and reports scan results
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of a School of Medical Sonography
Licenses/Certification
- Registered with advance certifications in at least one of the following OB/GYN and/or abdominal
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS), required
Experience
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
