Requirements:

Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from an accredited program.
Certification by the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counsellors (ABGC).
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in genetic counselling, particularly in cancer, cardiac genetics, and prenatal/pre-conception genetics.
In-depth knowledge of medical, clinical, and laboratory genetics principles.
Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Job Responsibilities:

Conduct genetic risk assessments and provide comprehensive counseling for clients at risk of hereditary conditions, particularly in cancer and cardiac genetics.
Review, interpret, and communicate genetic test results to clients, families, and healthcare providers.
Collaborate with physicians and nurse practitioners to integrate genetic data into personalized care plans.
Stay updated on provincial genetic testing processes and coordinate with private genetic testing entities when necessary.
Facilitate client decision-making regarding their genetic health by offering support and guidance.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of client care strategies.
Engage in continuous education to stay current with advancements in genetic counseling and emerging trends.
