Your Opportunity:
Unit 29 is a 32-bed in-patient unit that covers the following surgical focuses General surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, and Breast-hernia-thyroid surgery. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides a professional, caring and comprehensive approach to the surgical and medical patient. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients and families for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, illness and safety prevention. This unit uses the CoAct collaborative model of care.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years required. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Strong patient teaching skills. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization of skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the following surgical areas is preferred: General surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, and Breast-hernia-thyroid surgery. Nurses with a final focus on Unit 29, will be given consideration.
