Education and Training Intellectual and Developmental Delays and Disabilities (I/DD) Projects Intern
Position Summary
▪ Provides administrative and workflow support for to the Education and Training department Primary Responsibilities: To support all affiliate education and training efforts, specifically:
▪ Provides assistance with the development and organization of I/DD educational materials and research for lesson plan creation.
▪ Assists with the promotion and co-facilitation of sex education programs for youth and adults with I/DD as per programming goals and guidelines.
▪ Assists with coordination and attendance of I/DD-specific outreach activities including representation at health fairs, public schools, community-based organizations, colleges, and community events
▪ Assists Projects Coordinator with departmental efforts as assigned, including special projects, DEI-specific interdepartmental projects, and occasional attendance of coalition meetings within PPHP’s regions, and other duties as assigned.
▪ Follows the communications of key organizations that advocate for folks with I/DD and tracks media clips that are relevant to education, sexuality, and reproductive health within this population ▪ Stays current on knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and justice related news and topics
Qualifications
▪ Student seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Gender and Sexualities Studies, Women’s Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Psychology, or other relevant majors.
▪ Commitment to the mission of Planned Parenthood.
▪ Excellent organizational, administrative, and writing skills. ▪ Basic knowledge of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
▪ Understanding of the internet as a resource for research and communication. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team with staff and volunteers or independently.
▪ Attention to deadlines and confidentiality with content sensitive material in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
▪ Ability to manage several projects simultaneously with thorough follow-up. ▪ Spanish proficiency is recommended, but not required. ▪ Students with I/DD or who have worked closely with this population are encouraged to apply. Time Commitment ▪
Minimum Commitment: Full or Partial Academic Year, 3 - 9month commitment (September through May), 10-15 hours per week. o Occasional possibility of substituting with evening and/or weekend event attendance on a support level basis. o Hybrid remote and in-person activities (must provide your own transportation) ▪ Most hours will be completed virtually (subject to change) ▪ All in-person activities will include COVID-19 safety precautions
