Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Maternity/Gynecology team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH). MHRH is a full service hospital that provides services to Medicine Hat and surrounding areas in high need areas including: Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery, and Mental Health. Reporting to the manager, the RN provides care within the scope of practice as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. The RN will be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and position description. The Maternity/Gynecology unit is a 14-bed unit at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The focus of care is Maternal-Child (antepartum, postpartum women and their newborns), gynecology, and low-risk medical-surgical patients. This position is part of an inter-professional health care team utilizing processes, crucial thinking problem solving and decision-making skills. The RN accepts responsibility for continuing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs and quality improvement activities. Within the Women’s Health program, MHRH has implemented the patient and family centered care model.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum one year nursing experience obtained within the past 2 years working greater than 0.60 FTE. Experience in labour and delivery, antepartum, and newborn care. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Maternity/Gynecology experience (obtained within the last year working greater than 0.50 FTE). Consideration of new grads who have completed senior practicum on Post Partum unit. Experience in care of low-risk medical surgical patients. Certification/training in MoreOB, ACORN, Breastfeeding education, IV initiation/management, IV drug administration, blood administration, knowledge of postpartum pathway and newborn care. Charge nurse experience. Up to date Required Organizational Learning.
