Family Health Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dedicated to providing comprehensive, primary health care services to the medically underserved and uninsured populations in southeast Mississippi. General Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner works as part of the medical center provider team performing a variety of direct patient services, including performing diagnostic procedures; taking patient history; and formulating, initiating and monitoring the total patient management plan for health center patients. The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner performs these functions under the general supervision of a licensed physician in a primary medical care setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Obtaining complete medical history from the patient, previous medical record, etc.
2. Performing complete physician examinations on patients
3. Ordering routine and diagnostic laboratory and x-ray studies.
4. Diagnosing acute and chronic illnesses on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and x-ray reports and the results of other diagnostic procedures.
5. Formulating, initiating and monitoring patient care plans for each patient assigned to the mid-level provider, based on standing orders and/or consultation with the supervising physician.
6. Adjusting medications according to therapeutic goals and explaining treatment to patients, families and other clinical personnel.
7. Consulting with physicians and other members of the health care team, as necessary.
8. Referring patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions to the supervising physician or appropriate specialist and following these patients with the physician.
9. Rendering emergency care and treatment
10. Teaching and counseling of patients and families.
11. Maintaining all records to comply with required standards, reviewing records regularly and obtaining physician counter-signatures of all notes where medical care was rendered by the mid-level provider, as applicable
12. Participating in periodic review of the written policies governing services provided by Family Health Center, Inc.
13. Participating with the supervising physician in a periodic review of the patients’ health care records.
14. Performing other necessary duties as required by the Family Health Center, Inc. to meet the goals of providing primary health care services.
Reporting Relationships:
The Women's Health Nurse Practitioner reports to and is supervised by the Chief Medical Officer.
Qualifications:

1. Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Graduation from an approved Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner training program.
3. Approval of the State Board of Medical Examiners to serve as a Nurse Practitioner.
4. Demonstrated competence to perform the duties of a Nurse Practitioner in an ambulatory care setting.
5. The ability to communicate effectively with members of the staff, the patients, and the public through writing, speaking, and in presentations.
6. The ability to convey a caring attitude to all members of the community served by the Family Health Center, Inc.

Salary:
The salary for this position is determined by the Chief Executive Officer in accordance with the policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Directors, and with consideration for the unique qualifications of the candidate.
