Job Description
The Professional Travel RNreflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Position is aClinical Nurse who provides consultation and vaccinations for patients who are traveling.
Responsibilities:
- Formulates plan by gathering and assessing Medical history, Vaccination history, Immunization status, Immune status, Travel itinerary.
- Determines appropriate vaccinations, malaria risk, traveler's diarrhea risk high altitude risk.
- Administers appropriate vaccinations and monitors patients response.
- Initiates urgent or emergency care upon occurrence of adverse reaction.
- Prescribes appropriate medications
- Educates patient regarding risks, benefits and side effects of vaccinations and prescriptions
- Draws blood titers as necessary to determine immune status.
- Administers appropriate vaccines based on results
- Educates patient regarding health risks of destination.
- Complete accurate documentation of patient visit into electronic medical record.
- Evaluate patient's physical response to visit.
- Evaluation of patient's retention of education
- Return phone calls from patients, advising them based on questions and concerns.
- Evaluate patient satisfaction scores and comments.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrates clinical competence
- Provides direct patient care
- Performs ongoing assessment of assigned patients bio-psychosocial and learning need.
- Implements appropriate actions to respond to needs of patients and patients significant other.
- Monitors and documents the patient's response to therapeutic interventions and progress toward outcomes
- Demonstrates cost effective approach to patient care in terms of equipment, supplies and all other resources
- In all areas of practice follows established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Participates in quality improvement activities.
- Integrates theoretical knowledge base and clinical expertise in decision-making.
- Assumes responsibility for meeting mandatory requirements.
- Assumes responsibility for personal development plan and education related to clinical specialty area.
- Follows research protocols for assigned patients.
Essential Functions: The registered professional travel nurse works independently under the orders of the medical director. The RN is accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, education and evaluation of disease prophylaxis for patients who are embarking on international travel. As a member of the clinical and work unit team, the nurse participates in decision-making and quality improvement activities that improve patient care outcomes.

Qualifications
Required:
- Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse or eligible in the State of Illinois.
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
- Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills
- The ability to work independently with little direction
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Professional and confident demeanor
- Superior customer service skills.
Preferred:
- At least two years experience as an RN.
