full-time opportunity as a
Business Manager exists in the
Department of Medicine (DoM) reporting to the
Head, Department of Medicine. The Business Manager will work closely with the Head of the DoM in defining and accomplishing the strategic goals and objectives of the department. The incumbent will be adept at leading and operationalizing the department’s vision through the effective management of all administrative functions, namely finance, human resources, information technology, research administration, special projects, and space management. The manager will ensure appropriate practices are developed and implemented, provide leadership, and support strategic decision making and planning. The Business Manager will have a record of financial acumen, building collaborative relationships, and proven ability to navigate and influence within complex organizational structures will help to advance the academic priorities of the DoM.
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
- Acts as a primary resource to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Department of Medicine.
- Manages centralized processes and approvals for the portfolio, including financial, procurement, and human resource-related approvals.
- Manages central services including development of procedures, ensuring appropriate resourcing is in place.
- Works closely with the financial analyst to prepare detailed budgets and supporting financial documentation.
- Responsible for the recruitment, oversight, mentoring and performance of staff associated with this role.
- Identifies and develops processes to support efficient and effective operations and Implements program improvements and maintenance of program standards.
- Builds and strengthens relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.
- Coordinates tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders.
- Liaises with colleagues within the hospital and at the University to encourage the use of best practices and consistent programming.
As a role model and champion, you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care

Qualifications
- University degree and training in the area of financial and human resource management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative management experience, preferably in a university or hospital environment.
- Financial management experience and analytical ability in budget modelling and forecasting.
- Experience supporting strategic planning initiatives, and developing and implementing business plans.
- Successful experience managing, leading and mentoring staff, in a unionized and non-unionized environment.
- Experience in developing effective business processes and systems to increase efficiency and optimize the use of resources.
- Superior interpersonal skills with ability to develop relationships with people representation a range of sectors.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership and team building skills.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
- Strong decision-making skills; strong planning and project management skills, focusing on executing and completing tasks under pressure and managing conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong multi-tasking ability; proven judgment, tact, discretion and diplomacy.
- Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to the University.
