Mercy Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (South West Area Mental Health Service) is a public mental health service supporting people in south west metropolitan Melbourne with severe and complex mental illnesses by providing acute and community-based care. Services are available to adults through acute inpatient programs, residential rehabilitation programs and crisis and community recovery-focused treatment programs. We also deliver inpatient and community specialist perinatal mental health services to women and infants in western Victoria.
About the opportunity
Excellent opportunity to progress your senior level career in public mental health, working with a wide range of psychological presentations, within a collaborative multidisciplinary team at Mercy Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (South West Metro Melbourne Area Mental Health Service).
- Grade 3 Senior Clinical Psychologist
- Based at the Clare Moore Building 50 bed adult acute mental health inpatient unit, located at Werribee Mercy Hospital
- Permanent part-time 0.6 EFT

- Be a senior clinical member of a multidisciplinary team working with a diverse population of consumers with complex needs to support comprehensive and compassionate mental health care
- Provide a psychological lens and lead improved psychological care for inpatient consumers
- Conduct specialised psychological assessments to inform effective treatment for consumers admitted to the Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU) and Intensive Care Area (ICA)
- Provide discipline-specific psychological practice, in the form of assessment, formulation, recovery planning, brief individual therapy, therapeutic groups, relapse prevention, discharge planning, supporting inpatient consumers towards increased autonomy and recovery
- Contribute to psychological service development and workforce education, including development, facilitation and evaluation of evidence-based group therapy programs, in collaboration with the MDT and psychology team
- Supervise Grade 2 psychologists, registrars and/or psychology students
- Supportive professional development environment, with regular clinical supervision from a more senior psychologist, opportunities for paid professional development leave, and peer consultation from both the multidisciplinary team and the wider Mercy Mental Health psychology team.
Key responsibilities:
Strong knowledge of the discipline and understanding of diagnosis and case formulation in planning evidence-based, individually tailored psychological interventions.
Provision of specialist psychological assessments, risk management planning, brief individual therapy, development, facilitation and evaluation of therapy group program, with a focus on recovery, person-centred care, and effective outcomes for adult inpatient consumers and their families.
Active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings as a senior clinical team member, providing expert psychological consultation regarding formulation, diagnosis, risk management, treatment and behaviour support planning.
Contribution to service development, workforce education, and clinical supervision of more junior psychologists.
Participation in individual supervision and active commitment to professional development, as per the registration requirements of the Psychology Board of Australia.

To thrive in this role, you will have:
A minimum of a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology in an APAC accredited postgraduate course.
Current full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist, with Area of Practice Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
At least 5 years' experience as a Psychologist post full AHPRA registration.
PBA approved Supervisor status (or eligible and working towards same).
Commitment to working within a recovery-oriented framework, with a compassionate, flexible and positive approach to effective consumer care.
Highly developed and up-to-date clinical and theoretical knowledge.
Excellent organisational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, with the ability to adapt, problem solve and prioritise.
Demonstrated ability to nurture friendly, respectful relationships with a culturally diverse range of people, and contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
Excellent skills and experience in mental state and risk assessment, risk management, brief targeted interventions, and evidence-based psychological therapies, including CBT, ACT and/or DBT.
Passion for and robust clinical skills in complex and acute mental health assessment and formulation, to inform individualised treatment and management planning.
Interest and experience in developing and implementing therapeutic group programs in an acute mental health environment.
You will also be required to provide evidence of, or be willing to obtain:
A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
Current COVID-19 certificate, proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
