Job Title:
Fertility Consultant
Location: Galway City
Job Purpose/Overview:
To provide a service of investigation and treatment of infertile couples,
and to provide the highest standard of patient care through effective and
professional teamwork.
To implement and advance the strategic targets for the overall ReproMed
Ireland Group, with specific emphasis on the development and growth of
its fertility service in Dublin.
Reports to: Medical Director Dublin
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key Responsibilities
a) Managing clinical output and performing procedures and
clinical activities, working in accordance with current legislation
concerning the safety and quality of human tissues and cells.
b) Assisting with the development of the ReproMed Ireland
unit’s annual strategic and financial plans
c) Representing ReproMed Ireland as person responsible for
clinical output at the Dublin unit (in accordance with EUTCD
2004/23/EC Article 17), working with the quality department on
preparation for and facilitation of regulatory inspections by the HPRA
and/or any other statutory/regulatory bodies
d) Ensuring the adherence to all clinical and laboratory protocols
by ReproMed Ireland clinical team in accordance with ReproMed
Ireland’s QMS and EU and national legislative requirements
e) Responsible for the review and release of tissues and cells in
accordance with the EUTCD and ReproMed Ireland’s policy on Review
& Release of Tissues.
f) Ensuring appropriate orientation and induction of clinical staff
at ReproMed Ireland
g) Contributing to defining the clinical roles and objectives at
ReproMed Ireland and providing a best practice philosophy in clinical
practice & procedures ensuring the best possible outcomes for our
patients
h) Keeping abreast of the latest clinical and scientific research
and technologies in reproductive medicine and contributing to
continuous improvement through suggested changes and modifications
to clinical protocols.
i) Reviewing and revising clinical documentation through the
clinic’s document control database in accordance with current
ReproMed QMS change control practices and assistance from the
quality team
j) Act as PR representative for ReproMed Ireland for general
media enquiries and any scheduled radio / TV or print media features
or comments pre-approved the senior management team
k) To ensure consistent medical treatment of patients by
working in accordance with agreed protocols and achieve medical
continuity of care for all patients
l) Be aware of and interactive with the incident/event
reporting system
m) Any other reasonable duties as may arise from time to time to
be expected with the job
Education & Professional
Qualification
a) Maintain and develop professional expertise and knowledge by actively
engaging in continuing professional development
b) Ensure that the personal 'Staff Training Logbook’ is maintained and up
to-date
c) Manage, participate and play a pivotal role in the training, education and
support of others as appropriate
d) All staff working in ReproMed will be expected to comply with the
legislative requirements of the Tissue Directive-S.I. 158 of 2006 and S.I. 598 of
2007. Full training will be provided
e) It is the duty of all staff to report any problems or concerns to their
manager immediately.
f) It is the duty of all staff to report to their manager/RP immediately if they
are experiencing any difficulties in executing their responsibilities
g) Adhering to the ethical and moral standards expected of medical
practitioners according to the professional Code of Practice
h) Be responsible for maintaining full registration with Irish Medical Council
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
a) Required: MRCPI (Ob/Gynae division) or equivalent
b) Desirable: Registration on the specialist register of
Gynecologist in the Irish Medical Council
-One to two years' experience as an Infertility Specialist with 'hands-on'
experience in all medical procedures in assisted conception treatment
Experience, enthusiasm and proven ability in research and publication of
scientific papers
-I.T. and presentation skills

b) In the course of your employment you may have access to or hear
information concerning the medical and personal affairs of patients and/or staff, or
other business.
c) Such records and information are strictly confidential and unless acting
on the instructions of an authorised staff member, on no account must
information concerning staff, patients or other business be divulged or discussed
except in the performance of normal duty.
d) In addition clinical records must never be left in such a manner that
unauthorized persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody
when no longer required.
e) An understanding and working knowledge of basic IT systems (MS Office
software) is expected in order to facilitate all aspects of this role

Daily Duties:
a) Evaluating patients for treatment and applying appropriate medical
protocols designed specifically for the patient’s needs, with recommendations for
change and improvement as and when required
b) Managing the clinical performance of the clinic to ensure ReproMed
Ireland’s high professional standards are met and maintained
c) Attending daily clinical meetings in order to effectively communicate and
address all clinical matters with the other clinical team colleagues
d) Managing clinical data appropriately by maintaining and updating
electronic and paper medical records on the unit’s clinical database
e) Provide honest communication about chances and limitations, and
constant feedback to patients and colleagues
f) To manage the care of new and follow up patients from consultation
through to completion of treatment
g) Consult, advise, monitor and perform appropriate surgical procedures for
infertility patients including but not limited to:
• Patient Initial Consultation, review and follow-up
• Sonography, associated paperwork and reporting
• Phlebotomy, associated paper work and reporting
• Egg Collections, Embryo Transfers with associated procedural set-up and
follow-up
• Chart/case review and follow-up
h) Make decisions regarding patients medical treatment, drug regimes,
timing of procedures, referral for other treatments not available at the ReproMed
i) Deliver an understanding and empathic service to and for the fertility
patients
j) Demonstrate your experience and flexibility through participation in
internally or externally commissioned clinical research projects as appropriate to
achieve the overall ReproMed objectives
k) Possess a solution oriented approach to problem solving with colleagues
within ReproMed
l) Nurture and deliver on creative ideas within the ReproMed Ireland Group
or for any aspect of patient treatment/care
m) Foster collaboration between colleagues through a teamwork approach
n) Ensure timely flow of clear, relevant information, using the most
appropriate and effective communication methods to patients and within the
Repromed Ireland Group
o) Ensure accurate and timely updates to all referring services and patients
Proficiency in the English Language
This role requires fluency in the English language, if English is not the post-holder’s native language.

Working Hours:
- 40 Hour working week inclusive of breaks
- 8 Hour shift with core operating hours between 8am-4pm, occasional public holidays and weekends required.
