ABS Global, a Genus plc company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Research Specialist to apply cellular-level solutions to transform the global animal protein industry via ABS and IntelliGen semen technologies. The position is located in our DeForest, WI office and hybrid work is an option. The Research Specialist has primary accountability for designing and executing reproductive biology experiments in a timely and accurate manner while participating in a team that is collaborative, enthusiastic, and engaging. - Execute and design high quality reproductive biology and process improvement experiments to meet established goals.
- Together with Quality Control and Production, the Research Specialist will summarize and interpret data, and design new experiments based on results.
- Control, maintain, and be accountable for research facilities, equipment, and other resources.
- Develop and implement assays and SOPs as required for deployments.
- Provide solutions to researchers within and across projects by identifying problems and opportunities impacting goals.
- Remain current on new technology by reviewing literature, participating in professional meetings and career development activities, and encouraging others to bring information into research activities.
- Maintain laboratory notebooks and record experiments in a timely fashion in accordance with laboratory notebook compliance guidelines.
- Contribute to scientific publications and conferences.
- Implement and monitor safe working practices while adhering to and promoting Genus core values.
- Promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
- Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
- Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Basic Qualifications: (required)
- B.S. in Animal Science, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Veterinary Science, or relevant field.
- Minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience working in reproductive biology.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of research laboratory operations
- Demonstrated ability to implement research plans and achieve results
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, experience with statistical software like JMP or OriginLab
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with reproductive biology and specific expertise in sperm physiology, fluorescence microscopy, quantitative protein biochemistry, lipid biochemistry, flow cytometry, primary cell culture desired, not required.
- An understanding of the bovine genetics/semen industry in the US and globally
- An understanding of the commercial dairy, beef, and porcine industries
