About the role
Inviting interested SMOs to apply for the position of Director, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mater Mothers’ Hospital.
The Director, Obstetrics and Gynaecology position is supported by two Deputy Directors (Mater Mothers’ Hospital Brisbane, Mater Hospital Springfield). The Director reports operationally to the General Manager of the Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Those in Director roles in MMH and across Mater also fulfil a key strategic role, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer in helping to inform policy and practice, standards, champion benchmarking and lead new models of care for their specialities, across the whole Mater Group.
The Director, Obstetrics and Gynaecology position will be a full-time position, allocated 0.4 FTE clinical and 0.6 FTE administration for a period of 4 years. Details of the position are contained in the generic Medical Director document accessible at Medical Director Duties Descriptor.pdf.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide strong leadership, direction, and a unified team approach to clinical service delivery aligned with organisational strategy
- Contribute to strategic, operational, and workforce planning, including service growth across the network, and development of modern models of care and clinical pathways
- Support achievement of service, revenue, and performance KPIs through efficient use of resources and workforce management
- Ensure the team engages in ongoing quality assurance, education, research, and professional development
- Promote and uphold risk-management practices, contribute to policy review, and respond to incidents appropriately
- Oversee training programs for junior medical staff and support accreditation standards.
- Apply contemporary HR practices, including WHS, diversity, and inclusion
- Maintain high standards of infection control
- Build and maintain relationships with GPs, specialists, and external stakeholders
- Mentor and support the two Deputy Directors while fostering leadership opportunities across the team to strengthen overall capability
- Collaborate with internal clinical and operational leaders across the organisation
- Ensure staff have performance and career development plans and meet mandatory training requirements
About you:
Qualifications
- Eligible for registration as a Specialist with AHPRA
Experience
- Comprehensive experience as a specialist in the field
- Experience directing and managing a department (highly desirable)
- Experience in training junior and senior medical staff
- Involvement in research, quality, or risk management activities
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of contemporary evidence-based clinical care
- Ability to foster a harmonious, collaborative multidisciplinary team
- Effective communicator at all levels; supports communication development in colleagues
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills
