WHA is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to work Per Diem at various locations in the Portland-Metro area.

WHA is a clinician-owned group practice and the largest women's healthcare organization in Oregon. From its 11 clinical locations, WHA offers obstetrics, gynecology, urogynecology, perinatology, midwifery, behavioral health and genetics.
Our Certified Nurse Midwives provide management of women's health care in a team-based approach, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. Our Certified Nurse Midwives also practice collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the patient and manage health problems encountered by the patient and are accountable for health outcomes.
This position requires availability to work nights and weekends.
DUTIES
- Provides nursing/medical care, consultation, collaboration, coordination and referral. Assesses and documents patients' status and needs through patient interviews and chart reviews. Prioritizes and counsels accordingly. Performs appropriate physical examination. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians for evaluation of illness.
- Differentiates between normal findings and those that require treatment.
- Follows guidelines for patient risk stratification and protocols for patient safety including appropriate transfer of care.
- Formulates and documents patient's health care plans incorporating the participation of the patient, physician and other health care professionals where appropriate.
- Communicates appropriate case management information to other healthcare professionals, clinician team and community agencies. Collaborates with physicians and/or other clinicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
- Promotes wellness philosophy by encouraging self-care and prevention of illness using education, counseling and written materials.
- Completes timely clinical and patient documentation in electronic medical record (EMR) according to WHA guidelines.
- Remains up to date on care guidelines and follows appropriate coding and documentation standards
- Provides obstetrical care for essentially healthy women, including labor management, delivery of infant, repair of lacerations/episiotomy and management of minor complications. Initiates emergency care as needed.
- Provides appropriate neonatal care for infants and initiates emergency care as needed. Coordinates transfer of newborn care to a pediatric provider.
- Demonstrates necessary surgical skills, dexterity, competence with equipment and judgment in emergency room, labor and delivery unit and operating room.
- Shares primary and secondary call responsibilities.
- Master of Science degree in nursing from an accredited school of nurse-midwifery required
- Current Oregon state licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges (NP-PP Nurse Midwife) required
- Current national certification as a Nurse Midwife required
- Current CPR certification required
- Intrapartum work experience preferred
- C-Section/First Assist in surgery experience preferred
- Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention and multi-tasking in a team care environment preferred
- 1 year of preferred experience
