Travel Obstetric Assistant (Day Shift)

- Shift: Days – 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM | 36 hrs/week
Position Overview
We are seeking a Travel Obstetric Assistant to join the Women’s Services team for a 13-week contract. This role supports Labor & Delivery by performing delegated patient-care tasks and assisting surgeons during operative procedures. Hospital scrubs are provided daily, and no call is required.
Responsibilities
- Assist nurses and surgeons during C-sections and obstetrical procedures.
- Provide direct patient care including bathing, dressing, mobility assistance, and vital signs.
- Identify and report breaks in sterile technique.
- Prepare equipment and supplies according to surgeon preference cards.
- Maintain accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles.
- Support the surgical team by anticipating needs and ensuring seamless workflow.
- Clean and maintain equipment, ensuring readiness for procedures.
- Document patient information accurately and maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in patient rounding to ensure comfort and safety.
- Adhere to AORN standards and hospital policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification required.
- Surgical Tech experience required.
- C-section experience highly preferred.
- CNA preferred but not required.
- Completion of competency-based skills checklist.
- One year Nursing Assistant experience preferred; two years hospital experience preferred.
- Ability to handle crisis situations and work in fast-paced, unpredictable environments.
- Must exhibit strong communication, teamwork, and patient-focused service.
Work Environment
- Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional x-rays.
- Requires prolonged standing/walking and ability to lift, position, or transfer patients or equipment.
- Irregular hours based on patient needs.
