Job Title: Ultrasound Technician (Non-Exempt Position)
General Summary of Duties: Responsible for performing sonographic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of conditions.
Reports to: Clinical Manager
Supervises: None
Typical Physical Demands:
- Requires full range of body motion including bending and stooping.
- Requires standing for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Requires hand-eye coordination and manual and finger dexterity.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight.
OSHA Employee Exposure Classification: 2
Typical Working Conditions: Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances, medications and other conditions common to a medical office practice. Involves daily communication with care providers, co-workers, patients and visitors.
Example of Duties: (This list does not include all duties that may be assigned)
- Performs ultrasound procedures as prescribed by the physician including:
- Positioning patient for proper view of the intended area
- Selects appropriate scan images to be recorded
- Obtains essential information from patient, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation
- Instructs patients on proper physiologic requirements for procedure
- Assists patient with transfer and immobilization to perform scan
- Able to change scanning parameters to improve scan quality
- Submits results to provider for interpretation
- Ensures all patients, scan and reports are tracked and any required data is entered appropriately into the electronic health record in a timely manner.
- Maintains good working relationship with providers, co-workers and patients.
- Assists Clinical Service Manager and other team members as needed.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA requirements.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Performs other delegated work duties as assigned.
Performance Requirements
Knowledge:
- Principles and skills of ultrasound polies, procedures and protocols.
- Electronic Health Record and computer applications including Word and Excel
Skill:
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Producing sonograms to meet clinically acceptable standards and provider expectations
- Maintaining records and recording test results in the electronic format
Abilities:
- Perform high quality Ultrasound work product to enhance patient overall care needs.
- React calmly and efficiently in emergency situations
- Maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, co-workers and the general public
- Prioritize and coordinate work activities
Education:
High School diploma
Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program
Experience:
One (1) year of clinical experience, or on the job training with a skilled Ultrasonographer.
Experience with an Electronic Health Record, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Certification/Licensure:
RDMS registered or registry eligible
CPR/BLS certification required (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment)

Experience:
- Sonography: 5 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Required)
- BLS Certification (Required)
Work Location: In person
