The Certified Surgical Technician focuses on ensuring the seamless preparation and maintenance of the operating room to support patient care and safety during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician is required to support the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Ovation Fertility and must demonstrate a commitment to provide quality service to patients, physicians, teammates, and the public.
We have an immediate opening for a per diem Certified Surgical Technician to join our Nashville, TN team. The schedule for this position is on call/as needed with the potential for 2-3 days weekly and hours may vary according to main schedule (7am-3pm), with 1 weekend per month and 1 holiday per year.
How You'll Contribute:
- Ensures patient comfort and safety measures are maintained
- Anticipates special needs and instrumentation for the patient relative to an accurate assessment of the patient and chart information
- Prepares the operative suite for surgery by checking and gathering supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
- Sets up sterile OR field with necessary equipment to perform the surgery
- Performs appropriate cleaning of the operating room between cases
- Utilizes surgeon preference cards to set up each case; updates cards when indicated and ensuring their correctness
- Ensures availability of adequate supplies, equipment, and instruments for scheduled cases
- Communicates with the surgical team prior to the case to ascertain specific needs
- Assists in draping to provide a sterile field
- Assists the surgeon during the surgical procedure anticipating his/her needs and the patient's needs during the case
- Conscientiously observes and reports any breaks in sterile technique to the surgeon and RN circulator
- Ensures that surgical asepsis is maintained in the handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, needles, and dressings
- Assures that counts (sponge, needle or instruments) are correct before patient leaves the OR. Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner
- Assists in moving the patient to stretcher after case
- Maintains a clean and orderly environment within the operative suite
- Integrates concepts of good body mechanics and "universal" precautions in daily work, wearing personal protective equipment as dictated by task at hand
- Completes all appropriate logs and checks prior to start of case and records indicator strip in log
- Assists in the daily maintenance of the department
- Restocks the OR daily
- Helps to restock sterile supply room and storage shelving as needed
- Pulls for the next days cases. Sets up for the next day as needed by gathering equipment and supplies
- Makes a list of supplies that needs to be ordered
- Completes sterilization of all instruments used that day
- Maintains autoclaves and completes logs for cleaning and testing
- Maintains clean and dirty utility rooms by stocking and cleaning daily
- Seeks out work to be completed, verifies with nurse manager, makes self-available to perform daily tasks
- Terminally cleans the OR at end of the day. Restocks blanket and fluid warmer for next day
- Utilizes interpersonal skills in an effective manner
- Assists in orienting new staff members to the OR
- Maintains good relationships and communicates well with patients, families, staff, and physicians
- Other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring:
- Graduate of an accredited OR Technician program with appropriate certification
- A minimum of one year of experience in surgical technology, including instrument sterilization and OR cleaning processes
- Experience in specialty surgical fields such as orthopedics, gynecology, or fertility procedures preferred
- Active BLS certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Reproductive Biology, or Cell Biology preferred
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Good research skills
- Tech savvy
- Flexibility and willingness to learn at all times
