Job Summary
The Nurse Informatics Specialist provides tier 2 support for all clinical applications as well as any related software upgrades. They will act as project lead for projects related to clinical applications and contribute to the success of timely met tasks and deadlines. Works with all disciplines and support staff providing subject matter expertise and customer service when offering technical support. Provides assistance, support and maintenance of all clinical applications. Develops documentation and implementation of application standards that are in line with Palliative, Home Care and Hospice standards and best practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
Primary Job Duties
- Provides initial and continuing education regarding the use of all clinical applications to the Education Department (train the trainer) ensuring optimal use of clinical applications by the staff.
- Identifies, develops and maintains clinical applications by identifying needs, observing and documenting current processes, developing project plans, participating in testing and implementation of new processes as well as assisting in developing policies and procedures pertaining to the new processes and/or information systems. Works in conjunction with the clinical and medical staff to meet specific needs and standards, including those of accrediting and regulatory agencies.
- Serves as project lead on projects related to any clinical application, using subject matter expertise to ensure successful and timely implementations.
- Provides tier 2 support and assistance in resolving routine problems with all clinical applications. Responsible for managing the Help Desk Queue for clinical applications ensuring timely resolution or escalation of all requests.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: BA/BS in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Licensure / Certifications: N/A
- Experience: 8 years’ experience as application analyst or similar role. Hospice or home health setting preferred. Experience with use of technology and electronic medical record systems essential. Capacity building experience, and knowledge of audit learning principles preferred. Healthcare experience required, along with clinical terminology.
- Essential Technical / Motor Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English. Have a working knowledge of clinical and direct patient care processes. Able to communicate, interpret, and critically think using clinical perspective. Ability to operate computer terminal.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to deal with other staff in a positive and professional manner. Understands the principles of adult learning and has ability to teach others.
- Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift or push a minimum of 10 pounds.
- Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to apply judgment and reasoning to prioritize work, make appropriate decision, and understand, follow, and recall verbal and written instructions.
- Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to see and speak clearly in order to perform basic job functions.
- Exposure to Hazards: Occasionally susceptible to eyestrain due to extended periods of work on terminals, potentially stressful
- Other - Hours of Work: 40 hour week, Monday – Friday with some additional hours as required and 24 hour responsibility for supporting clinical support of clinical applications.
