The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is seeking a full-time Career Status Teaching Professor to support its French/English bilingual undergraduate program. Fluency in both French and English is required. This is a critical role in supporting the success and continuity of bilingual nursing education within the Faculty.
We welcome applications from dynamic educators who are passionate about learner-centered, innovative teaching in a bilingual context. If you are fluent in French but not yet fully confident teaching in French, we still encourage you to apply. The Faculty, in partnership with Campus Saint-Jean, will provide tailored professional development and support to help you build instructional confidence in French.
While applicants from all areas of nursing education are welcome, experience in areas such as acute care, maternal-child health, community health, or mental health may be beneficial.

This is an Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) position with a full-time (1.0 FTE) career status appointment. The workload is 80% teaching and 20% service. The teaching load includes up to 8 courses annually, depending on course credit weighting.
Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor) will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

As a Teaching Professor, your responsibilities will include:

Teaching and Course Delivery

Actively contribute to assigned teaching teams, including attending team meetings and participating in collaborative planning.

Deliver course content in ways that meet stated learning outcomes and ensure consistency across course sections.

Develop, revise, and share learning activities, assignments, and assessment tools (e.g., exams, rubrics, clinical evaluations).
-
Engage in ongoing and end-of-semester course evaluations, including contributing to course reports and improvement planning.
-
Provide mentorship to colleagues within the teaching team, including through peer coaching, classroom observation, and feedback exchange.

Curriculum Alignment and Assessment

Ensure that course content, activities, and assessments align with learning outcomes and curricular frameworks.

Support the continuity and progression of key curricular concepts across courses and program levels.

Student Support and Engagement
-
Serve as the first point of contact for students in your courses, providing timely academic guidance and support.

Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Use learner-centered teaching practices and build strong educational relationships with students.

Connect students to faculty, staff, and University supports as needed.

Professional and Scholarly Engagement

Participate in curriculum renewal and continuous quality improvement efforts within the Faculty.

Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain teaching effectiveness and stay current in nursing practice and pedagogy.

Service and Leadership

Contribute to Faculty and University governance through committee work and leadership roles.

Support the broader academic and professional community by mentoring students, reviewing scholarly works, and participating in professional organizations.

Provide supervision or mentorship for undergraduate and master’s student work (e.g., capstone projects, preceptorship, or co-supervision of visiting scholars).
Minimum
-
Fluency in both French and English.

A Master’s degree (a Master’s in Nursing is preferred); a PhD is an asset.

Active and ongoing registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Demonstrated scholarship in post-secondary teaching and learning.
-
Ability to support students in a bilingual learning environment.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to learner-centered education.

Comfort with educational technologies and adaptable teaching strategies.

Immunization status that meets the requirements of the University and affiliated clinical settings.
Preferred

Confidence or experience teaching in French (or a willingness to engage in professional development to build this skill).

Clinical experience in areas such as acute care, maternal-child health, community health, or mental health.

Experience in curriculum development or course design.
