Job Description
General Statement of Job: This position operates ultrasound equipment to perform obstetric and gynecologic ultrasounds in an outpatient clinical setting. The technologist provides direct patient care, ensures accurate diagnostic imaging for providers, and supports high-quality prenatal and women’s health services.
Essential Functions
- Performs routine OB ultrasound procedures, including, dating,full anatomy, and biophysical profile.
- Performs a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasound to detect normal or abnormal results.
- Performs all OB sonography procedures as needed.
- Maintains ultrasound inventory for ultrasound exams and prepares room for exam.
- Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and obtain optimal diagnostic recordings. Utilizes ancillary devices such as selected transducers, audio- and video-recorders, computer systems, multi-format cameras and printers.
- Maneuvers patients into the correct position for ultrasound procedures. Uses and adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to ensure patient safety, precise positioning and to minimize patient discomfort.
- Sets up and maintains sterile fields while performing ultrasound procedures.
- Performs various clerical and front desk duties. Maintains appropriate logs, files and records related to ultrasound procedures.
- Identifies each patient with two identifiers and reviews each patient’s physicians order. Analyzes patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of accurate diagnostic procedures.
- Prepares patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, cross-referencing of significant or representative studies. Reports life threatening findings to physician immediately upon discovery.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy.
- Follows and adheres to all aspects of the clinics code of conduct.
- Assists patients with mobility needs within the clinic setting.
- Complies with staffing and on call rotations as required.
- Maintains equipment through proper care and maintenance. Makes minor adjustments and performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance. Inspects and disinfects probes prior to each exam. Reports any equipment malfunction to the Manager of Radiology.

Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED and completed an Accredited Ultrasound Program.
Experience
- One or two years of OB/GYN ultrasound experience required.
Certification
- ARDMS in OB/GYN required.
- Additional certifications (e.g., Abdomen, NT, or RVT) preferred.
