North Florida Women’s Care has an exciting opportunity for an experienced PRN as a(an) Sonographer. Our team is a well-recognized award-winning provider of women’s health care services in North Florida.

Our sonographers are responsible for performing diagnostic procedures using sonographic equipment. Examination reports are distributed to physicians and maintained in permanent files.

General Summary of Duties: Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality patient care, using good critical thinking and communication skills to assess, plan, implement, educate and evaluate patients/outcomes. Demonstrate computer proficiency and provide good customer service. The ideal candidate is an energetic team player with the ability to effectively manage/prioritize time.

Education: Certification in American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers and CPR certificate

Experience:

· Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions.

· Prepares equipment for the procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings.

· Explains procedure to the patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.

· Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.

· Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.

· Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes.

· Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.

· Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.

· Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

· Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Knowledge:

· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, basic physics, patient care, and medical ethics.

· Knowledge of mathematics and science.

· Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices to establish a safe work environment.

Skills:

· Skill in communication and interpersonal interactions.

· Skill in performing mathematical and scientific calculations.

· Skill in gathering and analyzing patient data.

Abilities:

· Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in a user-friendly manner.

· Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.

· Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

· Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management, and peers.

· Ability to competently use Microsoft Office and an EMR system.

Environmental/Working Conditions: This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases.
