Medical Laboratory Technologist

Reports To: Clinical Pathologist & Lab Supervisor
Location: Vancouver, BC
Work Hours: 7.5 hours per day/37.5 hours per week. Includes weekends.
Overview:
Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitment of the Endocrine Lab:
Reporting to Dr Rennie Chong-kit and the Lab Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Technologist assumes full responsibility for all samples collected, received and analysed in accordance with established laboratory standard operating procedures. Equally important, as a member of a small, independent diagnostic centre, the MLT works collaboratively with all members of the team performing a wide variety of tasks.
Key Areas of Involvement Include:
Specimen Collection
· Confirms identification and prepares patients for specified tests: collects blood specimen by performing venepuncture and skin puncture in accordance with established procedures, labels specimens with required information and ensures safe disposal of sharps and other material as required.
· Prepares collection room for semen collection and cleans the room after each patient
· Receives specimens, spins down and splits specimens into different containers, sorts and labels for testing, logs data into patient database. Stores analysed specimens and discards outdated specimens as directed in accordance with established facility procedures.
· Arranges for shipment of specimens to external labs. Completes forms, packages specimen in accordance with safe procedures and regulations. Contacts courier for pick up.
Performs Tests
· Estradiol, FSH, LH, Parathyroid Hormone, Progesterone, Prolactin, hCG, Thyroid Stimulating hormone, AMH and any other blood testing related to fertility treatments
· Completes semen analysis including morphology
· Enters results in the patient database; recognizes abnormal results, and follows up effectively, according to established procedures
Laboratory Duties
· Set ups, adjusts, troubleshoots, maintains and cleans laboratory equipment
· Performs daily Quality Control on all lab equipment
· Assists with ordering/unpacking laboratory supplies
· Assists with tasks related to the Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP)
Reception
· Answers phones
· Greets patients and accepts and confirms requisitions
· Confirms valid MSP coverage and/or accepts payments for testing
· Prepares MSP billing sheets with patient labels, fee codes and referring physicians
· Prepares private payment billing sheets for third party billing
Qualifications:
· Graduation within the last two years from a recognized school of Medical Technology, or a minimum of one year’s recent related experience in the relevant laboratory discipline(s), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
· Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Certified.

· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From $33.50 per hour
