Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional care to mothers and newborns during the labor and delivery process. This role requires a compassionate approach, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Labor and Delivery Nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the health and safety of both mother and child.
Duties
- Assess and monitor patients throughout labor, including vital signs, contractions, and fetal heart rate.
- Provide education and support to expectant mothers regarding the labor process, pain management options, and postpartum care.
- Administer medications as prescribed, including IV infusion and pain management therapies.
- Assist in delivery procedures, including suturing when necessary.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide immediate care to newborns post-delivery, including assessment of vital signs and physical examinations.
- Participate in emergency situations as needed, utilizing critical care experience when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during all procedures.
Experience
Candidates should possess a strong background in nursing with relevant experience in labor and delivery settings. Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for accurate medical documentation.
- Background in acute care settings, including ICU or emergency medicine experience.
- Knowledge of maternal-fetal medicine practices and protocols.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including those with developmental disabilities or geriatric patients. Additional skills that will enhance your candidacy include:
- Proficiency in patient assessment techniques and vital sign monitoring.
- Experience administering injections, phlebotomy, catheterization, and tube feeding.
- Knowledge of pain management strategies and acute pain management protocols.
