About The College/Unit/Department
The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology studies the functions of the living organism and how drugs and poisons affect them. Our goal is to teach and research the physiological, pharmacological, nutritional, and toxicological basis of disease and therapeutics.
Our research is far-reaching, exploring all aspects of physiology and pharmacology. From how neural pathways control energy, balance, and obesity to cell signaling in smooth muscle, the pathophysiology of vascular disease, and examining the molecular pharmacology of endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus, we are searching for solutions to some of today’s most pressing issues.

Position Summary
Assistant Professor in Physiology. The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine (Physiology & Pharmacology), invites applications for two 9-month academic year tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (45% Teaching, 45% Research, 10% Service).
We seek outstanding candidates with active research programs applying innovative multidisciplinary approaches, including animal/human models of disease and development to the study of physiology. We seek researchers with potential to work with colleagues within the Department and expand upon our current areas of excellence including reproductive physiology, neurophysiology and neurodegeneration as well as toxicology. The vibrant research community at the University of Georgia provides additional opportunities for collaborations with investigators in other Departments, Centers and Institutes (https://research.uga.edu/centers-institutes/), including the Biomedical and Translational Health Sciences Institute (https://btsi.uga.edu/), Bio-Imaging Center (https://bmc.uga.edu/),Center for Molecular Medicine (https://cmm.uga.edu/), Complex Regenerative Bioscience Center (https://rbc.uga.edu/), and the newly established Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research (ICNDR) and University of Georgia School of Medicine (https://medicine.uga.edu/).
Currently, the Department has 16 faculty, 8 lecturers, 24 graduate students, and 757 undergraduate students majoring in Biomedical Physiology.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must have a doctoral degree and post-doctoral work in Physiology or a related field. All candidates must also have a publication record appropriate for the rank. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
Candidates with research interests in cardiovascular, renal, respiratory or gastrointestinal physiology, as well as clinical pharmacology/pharmacokinetics, are encouraged to apply. Candidates should also have a commitment to teaching excellence and prior teaching history is desirable.

Duties/Responsibilities
Candidates will be expected to establish a robust externally funded research program and contribute significantly to the Department’s teaching mission, specifically in the Biomedical Physiology undergraduate major. Candidate will mentor graduate and undergraduate students as well as postdoctoral research associates. Duties may include teaching in professional DVM, graduate, or undergraduate courses.
