The Registered Nurse Lactation Counselor provides expert breastfeeding support and education to mothers and infants, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care.
- Responsibilities include in-person consultations, telephone follow-ups, and outpatient services to address lactation challenges, promote breastfeeding success, and ensure continuous support post-discharge.
- Collaborates with healthcare teams to coordinate care, educate staff, and develop lactation programs aligned with current guidelines.
- Educates families on breastfeeding techniques, infant feeding cues, and benefits, while providing emotional support and encouragement.
- Documents interactions per hospital policies, monitors progress, and adjusts care plans as needed.
- Requires an ADN or higher nursing degree, RN license, IBCLC certification, and BLS. Preferred experience includes hospital and outpatient lactation care.
- Works full-time from 7 AM to 7 PM, supporting diverse patient populations in a collaborative environment.
