JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Summary of the Job:
The Breast Ultrasound technologist is responsible for independent operation of ultrasound equipment, using knowledge of positioning patients, breast/chest anatomy, and physiology to record and present images to the Radiologist. They perform a variety of technical procedures in the scope of their position which may include screening and diagnostic breast exams, to include ultrasound guided biopsies, device placement and other breast procedures. Duties may include MFM ultrasound in specific circumstances.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program, or 10 years of Ultrasound experience. Must be registered or registry eligible for one of the following: ultrasound physics, OB/GYN, abdomen, vascular and small body parts. Must be ARDMS registry eligible with completion of the physics and a corresponding specialty examination (OB/GYN and Abdomen) within 1 year from date of hire. Vascular registry is preferred in addition to the above-mentioned registries. Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with patients of all types and ages.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Constant (67%-100%) – lifting, reaching, hearing, seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) – carrying, pushing/pulling, handling/feeling, talking
Occasionally (1%-33%) – balancing, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc), stooping, crouching, crawling
