About the Role
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity as Mater enters a major phase of:
- Digital transformation (new health ecosystem)
- Infrastructure redevelopment (surgical precinct expansion)
- Service redesign (integrated, patient-centred perioperative care)
As Clinical Director, you will:
- Lead a large team of consultant anaesthetists and trainees across two hospitals
- Partner with surgical, obstetric, and critical care leaders to drive innovation in patient flow, workforce planning, and safety governance
- Support and grow anaesthetic service models, aligned with Mater’s group strategy
- Strengthen teaching, research, and simulation through partnerships with The University of Queensland—especially in perinatal care, enhanced recovery, and digital decision support
You will also serve as the reference point for anaesthetic policy, risk, practice standards, and outcomes across all Mater hospitals
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert leadership across clinical governance, service delivery, quality, and safety
- Contribute to operational and strategic planning, service growth, and performance KPIs
- Drive education, training, and accreditation for junior and senior medical staff
- Enable participation in CPD, simulation, research, and quality improvement
- Apply best-practice HR, safety, and inclusive workforce principles
- Represent Anaesthesia at executive, multidisciplinary, and craft group meetings
