Your Opportunity:
The GPRH Obstetrics Department consists of single room maternity care model which has 22 room; 18 Labour, Delivery and recovery rooms; 4 private room antepartum/postpartum rooms; 5 bed assessment/Ob triage area. We have our own OR and Recovery room area imbedded in the unit. We care for patients who are low to high risk during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods including patients requiring C-sections. The 5-bed assessment/ OB triage area is embedded in the unit where we provide outpatient care and assessment of pregnant women from 20 weeks' gestation to delivery. When the unit census allows, we also provide care for off-service patients. We value providing high quality, effective, efficient, evidence-based, patient-centered care for all our pregnant, labouring, postpartum, newborn and perinatal loss patients. We strive to build an environment that empowers our patients and families through education and support through the life change that is pregnancy and childbirth, while also encouraging our staff to continuously learn and grow Reporting to the Unit Manager of Obstetrics, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of patient care activities on the nursing unit. The Clinical Coordinator is also responsible for assisting the Unit Manager with planning, organizing, supervising, directing and evaluating the provision of care and programs in the nursing unit. Other responsibilities include participating in quality improvement, identifying any issues requiring follow-up by the Unit Manager, promoting and encouraging team development, working relationships, and fostering an interdisciplinary team environment.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree. 3 years of Obstetrical nursing experience. Basic computer skills. Strong communication skills. Ability to establish strong working relationships with colleagues and patients, and work within an interdisciplinary team. Adaptability to a constantly changing environment. Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience. Experience in postpartum, Labor & delivery and OB Triage. Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation. Experience and training in Fetal Health Surveillance.
