A Basic grade Clinical Perfusionist must work autonomously to deliver a high quality service to support the multidisciplinary team involved in cardiac surgery. Their skills and experience will also enhance patient outcomes within vascular, trauma, orthopaedic and obstetric surgery. The Main Grade Clinical Perfusionist will provide a full range of blood management techniques in the operating theatre environment as well as Intensive Care, where patients require continued circulatory support. The role has an emphasis on continued development of the cardiac surgical service within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
The Clinical Perfusion Department at Leeds General Infirmary cover all aspects of cardiopulmonary bypass and blood preservation in both adult and paediatric cardiac surgery. Close communication has been made with the intensive care team, to ensure the adult and paediatric Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) programme develops to offer a safe and sustainable service to the Yorkshire region. The department is also responsible for cell salvage and point of care coagulation testing on the LGI site. The post holder is responsible for the use of highly complex and valuable perfusion equipment and must ensure that this equipment is in safe working order and that they are appropriately trained prior to clinical use.
