- Permanent Part-time role, 22.48 hours per week
- $125,330 (pro rata) plus 12% Superannuation and Uniform/Laundry/Qualification allowances

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the City of Melbourne’s Maternal and Child Health Team who are highly committed to innovative and inclusive practice.
As part of the Family Health program area the role of Maternal and Child Health Nurse is to:
- Provide services for families with children under six years from various language, cultural and socio-economic groups
- Work with families who are identified as experiencing parenting difficulties or where the child or parent has special needs or a disability
- Assessment of need and the provision of a range of culturally sensitive interventions for families with social, emotional and practical issues
- Assess the safety and wellbeing of children, including assessment and monitoring of children at risk and liaison with and referral to relevant team members and external agencies
- Promote immunisation and to provide immunisations during consultations or home visits
- Identify and refer families to other services and advocate on behalf of the parent or child
- Provide educational programs for families
- Promote the services available for families
The Maternal and Child Health Nurse is expected to share the corporate values and ensure behaviours are incorporated into all workplace activity.
Selection Criteria (What you will bring..)

In addition this position requires:
- Qualifications: Registration with AHPRA as Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, and qualification in Maternal and Child Health nursing (Postgraduate or higher)
- Sound knowledge of MCH service delivery including knowledge of the Maternal and Child Health Key Ages and Stages Framework
- The ability to develop parenting and health education group programs
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with vulnerable families and providing support and knowledge of referral processes
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute effectively to the team
- Skills in documentation of casework and accurate compilation of statistical data
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, including basic counselling skills; the capacity to relate effectively with families from a wide range of backgrounds and the ability to deal with crisis situations and negotiate to resolve problems
- A desire to practice continuity of care and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the model
Desirable:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with Child First and Child Protection
- Competent computer skills
- Current drivers’ licence
- Lactation Consultant qualification
