Overview We are seeking an energetic individual to provide and coordinate doula support and care to post-partum women for a multi-year study carried out at Yale New Haven Health and community settings. The study seeks to improve the quality of health care offered to women of color during the post-partum period to help prevent/mange hypertension and mental health outcomes following community-engaged approaches. The successful candidate must have training and on-the-ground hands-on experience in community engaged programs and research projects and demonstrable commitment to addressing health inequities from a social determinants of health perspective. This individual will report to EMPOWER program leadership at the Yale School of Public Health. Principal Responsibilities Provide post-partum support services to study participants including social and emotional support and maternal child health and wellbeing education. Maintain an active presence at Yale New Haven Hospital’s postpartum floor and assist with recruitment and refer eligible families to the study. Participate in weekly calls with doulas to troubleshoot issues around provision of care. Participate in weekly leadership team meetings, biweekly meetings with MIO leadership, weekly meetings with the EMPOWER clinical team at Yale with follow-up calls with participants. Assist with the development, refinement, and pretesting of the doula’s curriculum. Participate in study trainings. Provide weekly organization, scheduling, and documentation in EPIC and REDCap of doula visits. Coordinate and communicate between doulas, participants and the clinical team. Keep track of coverage including which participants are assigned to which doula. Help document doula visits and address challenges.
Required Skills and Abilities 1. Demonstrated ability providing support to individuals during pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum period. 2. Demonstrated interests in addressing maternal and child health inequity from a social determinants of health perspective. 3. Proven experience with Word, Power Point and Excel. 4. Strong teamwork skills and written and oral communications skills.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Bilingual (English and Spanish). Training as a community health worker. Proven experience addressing health inequities at a systems level. 1-2 years of experience training as a doula and/or providing doula services.
Principal Responsibilities
- Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
