McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time Genetic Counselor, non-tenure clinical track Instructor or Assistant Professor position in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Obtains patient and family historical medical data and interprets data obtained to determine possible
problem areas.
- Assists patients in understanding genetic diseases or birth defects to provide professional advice
counseling services.
- Assesses patient needs as they relate to emotional stress, fear of test results, financial, or transportation
problems, marital conflicts, or patient-physician conflicts to make proper referral recommendations.
- Updates medical records and keeps team members apprised of patient problems.
- Refers patients for tests or to other assistance, such as a social worker.
- Monitors information resulting from test results and agency referrals and reviews cases for further evaluation
to assure continuity of patient care and education of patient's family, like disease/problem.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in human genetics and counseling or a related field.
- Current board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors.
- No experience required.
