The Maternity and Gynaecology Department at John Hunter Hospital provides both local and tertiary obstetrics and gynaecology services to families in the Hunter New England and surrounding areas. The Department offers a diverse range of care options, including a number of continuity of care models in both high and low risk pregnancies. Newcastle has all the benefits of a large city while having a costal, regional location.
To provide effective obstetric and gynaecological services to the patients of the Hunter New England Local District, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of progressing to the Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).
What You'll Be Doing
To provide effective obstetric and gynaecological services to the patients of the Hunter New England Local District, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities with the aim of progressing to the Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).
This position will satisfy the RANZCOG Advanced Training Module (ATM) criteria for the Essential O&G ATM, the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) ATM, and has scope for the Generalist Obstetric ATM and/or Colposcopy ATM. The SRH Fellow plays an important role in provision of termination of pregnancy in complex cases and more advanced gestations. They work closely with specialists involved in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, fertility management, vulvovaginal disease, care of gender diverse people, and termination of pregnancy. The role includes exposure to operative cases pertinent to these fields.
The Provisional Fellow in SRH is a key member of a hardworking team that ensures service delivery across the spectrum of O&G. They take a leadership role in ward and postoperative rounds and management of complex gynaecology inpatients. They participate fully in the after-hours rosters covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The role includes a contribution to daytime Birth Suite, caesarean list, and antenatal clinic coverage.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
- Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent communication, clinical skills, judgment, and expertise.
- Demonstrated advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences
- Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Gynaecology
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
