General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the laboratory supervisor and director, the Embryologist II, performs advanced technical, clinical and research duties independently and as part of the greater laboratory team. Interacting directly with the laboratory director and physicians and must demonstrate the ability to use sound judgment while performing laboratory procedures. Participates in research studies focusing on embryology and andrology components of the IVF program with the goal of advancing laboratory technologies. Participates in and supervises daily tasks and training of less experienced embryologists, with a focus on ensuring quality outcomes and an excellent patient experience.
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities, include conducting the full range of basic and advanced Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) laboratory procedures including but not limited to:
- Media preparation with accuracy and impeccable attention to detail
- Sperm preparation for ICSI and conventional insemination
- Egg retrievals and cumulus cell removal
- Conventional and ICSI inseminations, meeting established goals for fertilization
- Fertilization checks for conventional insemination and ICSI
- Embryo grading to select embryos for cryopreservation, biopsy or transfer
- Performs advanced IVF procedures (including ICSI, embryo biopsy, tubing, oocyte vitrification and oocyte warming)
- Conduct daily quality control activities
- Successfully participates in proficiency testing
- Ensures all documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner
- Ancillary duties as required to maintain a clean and operating laboratory, tank maintenance & monitoring, cleaning, and maintaining equipment, and inventory control
- Complies with CAP regulations and laws for human ART in the U.S. and applicable states; adheres to internal policies, procedures, and rules.
- Assures that work is performed in accordance with American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) standards
- Works collaboratively with the Laboratory Director and lab team to proactively identify evolving βbest practicesβ as well as areas for improvement in laboratory processes and department operations
- Meticulously follow detailed laboratory standard operating procedures as well as comply with all safety policies
- Meets quality standards and numerical goals for laboratory procedures as set by the Laboratory Director
- Consults with physicians as needed
- Ensures that the laboratory always has appropriate and adequate supplies available for all laboratory procedures and assists with ordering as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Works autonomously and is accountable for managing the weekend workload and responding to alarms as needed
Minimum Education And Experience Necessary
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Reproductive Biology or Animal Science required.
- Two years of prior human IVF laboratory experience is required.
- Ability to participate in a full-time schedule that includes rotating weekends.
