POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sonographer, also known as an Ultrasound Technologist, is responsible for performing ultrasound examinations on pregnant women and gynecological patients to monitor fetal development, diagnose medical conditions, and assist in treatment planning. The Sonographer ensures that the ultrasound produces images that a physician can use to assess a patient’s condition and make diagnostic decisions if necessary.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ultrasound Imaging: Perform obstetric and gynecological ultrasound to create clear and accurate images of the female reproductive system, including fetal anatomy and development.
- Patient Care: Ensure patient comfort and safety during ultrasound procedures, explaining the process and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Diagnostic Analysis: Analyze ultrasound images, identify abnormalities, and communicate findings to physicians and other healthcare providers to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of ultrasound procedures, patient information, and results in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is in optimal working condition. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Continuing Education: Stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and medical procedures by participating in continuing education programs.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Minimum Required: High School diploma or GED
Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
EXPERIENCE:
· Proven work experience or relevant training as an OB/GYN Sonographer with a strong background in obstetrics and gynecology.
· Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and related software.
· Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
